Wine cooler, display cabinet, or refrigerated display case: Which wine display unit to choose for a restaurant or store

October 18, 2026

A professional wine cooler is not the same as a display cabinet or a refrigerated display case, even though all three keep wine at a controlled temperature. They differ in format, capacity, temperature range, and the role the unit plays in the dining room or store. This comparison explains what each type offers within the CORECO Gourmet wine line and how to choose based on your intended use.

Three Types of Wine Equipment

Wine Coolers: VN and VNP Series

This is a large-format wine display case with a glass facade: double-pane glass doors set in a lockable aluminum frame, with a stainless steel interior, a black plastic-coated steel exterior, and 3000 K perimeter LED lighting. It is available in two heights, 2300 and 2600 mm, and operates between +5 °C and +18 °C. The evaporator and condenser unit form a monoblock system that is shipped in a separate package for installation at the top. Bottle capacity depends on the shelving configuration, which is optional. The VN series has solid side panels and a solid back panel; the VNP series has panoramic side panels; and the -PT versions feature double-sided glass doors.

Wine Display Cabinet: AGW, AGWP, and EBRW Series

It is a vertical cabinet with a temperature range of +2 °C to +18 °C, AISI-304 steel shelves with wooden fronts that tilt 20°, dual 3000 K LED lights, a low-emissivity double-pane glass door, and a standard lock. Capacities range from 105 bottles in the 751 format to 315 in the EBRW-2003. Models with a “/2” designation have two separate compartments, allowing red and white wines to be stored at their respective temperatures within the same unit. AGWP denotes panoramic sides, and the AGW-PT versions feature double-sided doors and operate at temperatures ranging from +4 °C to +18 °C.

Wine displays and refrigerated displays

The DAW-200 and DAW-400 are compact display cases 600 mm wide, with capacities of 26 and 60 bottles, respectively, and a temperature range of +2 °C to +18 °C. The refrigerated display cases in the CEVRW, CEFIW, CARW, CARMW, and CAGMW series feature a full-length frameless glass front, an anti-vibration system, low noise levels, and shelves with solid pine front panels. They offer two temperature ranges: red wine (+10 °C to +18 °C) or white, rosé, and brut wines (+4 °C to +8 °C). The CARMW-125 and CAGMW-125 models have separate compartments.

How to Choose a Professional Wine Cooler or Display Case

Use: for storage, display, or serving

If the goal is to integrate the wine cellar into the interior design, a professional wine cooler from the VN or VNP series is the natural choice. If you need serving capacity near the bar with two temperature settings, a display cabinet with two compartments offers more functionality in a smaller footprint. In a gourmet shop or a small space, a refrigerated display case or a DAW takes up little room and keeps the products on display.

Capacity and Dimensions

Measure the opening, including the depth: AGW models are 860 mm deep, and EBRW models are 735 mm deep, with the same capacity of 210 bottles in their 1370 mm-wide configurations. At the other end of the spectrum, the CEVRW-440 measures 430 mm wide and 510 mm deep, with a capacity of 48 bottles.

Temperature range

The AGW and EBRW cabinets and the DAW display cases cover a temperature range from +2 °C to +18 °C; the VN and VNP wine coolers, from +5 °C to +18 °C; and the refrigerated display cases, from +4 °C to +18 °C, divided into two temperature zones. If you serve both red and white wines, choose a model with two separate compartments.

Controls and Options

The VN and VNP wine coolers and AGW cabinets feature digital control with real-time monitoring and operation via a smartphone or tablet app; the EBRW and DAW models feature digital temperature control; and the refrigerated display cases feature digital control with a high-temperature alarm. Options include additional shelves, sets of casters or legs, and exteriors made of stainless steel, lacquered finish, or wood, depending on the series.

When to Choose Each One

  • Restaurant with an open wine cellar and interior design project: VN or VNP wine cooler, 2300 or 2600 mm tall.
  • A restaurant or wine bar that serves red and white wine: display cabinet with two compartments, such as the EBRW-1302/2.
  • Room with limited space or limited support for the bar: The DAW-200, which is 900 mm tall and holds 26 bottles, or the DAW-400.
  • Gourmet store with a wide selection: CEFIW display cases, holding up to 300 bottles in the CEFIW-3R model.
  • Display corner or narrow space: CEVRW-440.

Common Mistakes

  • Buying based on the number of bottles without checking the depth, the height of the opening, and the distance to the installation site.
  • Using a single temperature range for all wine, even though reds and whites aren't served at the same temperature.
  • Failing to allow for the ventilation space around the condenser unit or, in the case of the VN and VNP wine coolers, failing to place the monoblock unit on top.
  • Choose solid sides if the equipment will be visible from multiple angles, or panoramic sides if it will be placed against a wall.
  • Failure to consider the climate class: The models in the table with a specified climate class are in Class 4 (30 °C and 55 % relative humidity).

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a professional wine cooler and a wine display cabinet? The VN or VNP wine cooler is a large-format unit, 2,300 or 2,600 mm tall, with an upper monoblock and a capacity that varies depending on the selected shelves. The display cabinet is more compact, with standard shelves and a fixed bottle capacity.

Can you have both red and white wine in the same set? Yes. Models with a "/2" suffix, such as the EBRW-1302/2, EBRW-2003/2, or AGW-1002/2, have two independent compartments that can be set to temperatures ranging from +2 °C to +18 °C, and the CARMW-125 and CAGMW-125 also have separate compartments.

What does the suffix -PT indicate? In the VN and VNP wine coolers and the AGW and AGWP cabinets, "-PT" identifies the models with double-sided glass doors, designed for units that are viewed and used from both sides.
